Yellow Submarines

Caleb has such unique and varied interests - and when he likes something - he becomes very passionate about it. This past year he discovered The Beatles. . . . and now our whole family knows all sorts of Beatles trivia thanks to Caleb's love of the topic and all his reading up on it.

I can't tell you how many times I catch myself singing, "You say goodbye, I say hello, hello, hello. I don't why you say goodbye I say hello," or "All you need is love, (ba ba ba ba ba ba) All you need is love," and my personal favorite, "We all live in a yellow submarine . . . . "

For his birthday this past year, I made yellow submarines out of yellow twinkies, Sixlets candies and bendy straws. (Thanks, Pinterest!) As I was sorting the pictures I had printed of his birthday, I put this one aside because my scrapbooking brain started envisioning the layout you see here!

Scrapbooking Tips:

When I was going through water die cuts on Silhouette Design Store, I saw a yellow submarine designed by Doodlebug Design. I pulled out some ocean theme paper from Doodlebug and started picking papers that would complement a large die cut yellow submarine.

My next step was to find a die cut wave pattern that would fill a 12x12 layout. Layering the waves was a little tricky because no matter how hard I tried, I could not get everything lined up perfectly, but you can't really tell on the finished layout.

I die cut my title because I had a spacing challenge. The letter stickers in my stash looked lost on the busy background because they were not a bright, bold yellow and they were way too small for the space - I needed the title to cover more than one wave to help balance the large die cut on the bottom of the layout.

Overall, this layout came together quickly because I had a vision of what I wanted it to look like. Whenever I see it, I can't help but start singing, "We all live in a yellow submarine . . . ."
