I really enjoyed making this Valentine's Day Card! When reading Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, I saw them ask for slimline Valentine's Day cards for their upcoming winter issue. Almost immediately this idea came to mind because I had just purchased the slimline card die from The Stamps of Life.
I submitted this card and a couple winter themed layouts and they actually selected it for publication! I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning I was so excited!
After die cutting the base out of midnight cardstock, and the front panel out of powdered sugar cardstock, I got a heart stencil and using sponge daubers colored in the hearts in rainbow order. To create some added visual interest, I would start the next color slightly overlapping the previous color, as you can see here in the photo. After I added the hearts, I stamped the sentiment in licorice ink.
I then pulled out my basket of paper scraps and pulled out Cranberry, Tangerine, Banana, Green Apple, Blueberry and Grape cardstock (don't you just love the fun color names from The Stamps of Life!) and using their Dotted Heart dies, die cut 6 hearts.
The dotted dies are some of my absolute favorite dies EVER! I use them on so many cards and layouts. They are versatile because, if I feel like it, I can stitch in the holes, and that gives my shape such a cool texture and look. However, you can still get an awesome look without the stitching - and when I'm in a time crunch, I will skip it. Once the hearts were ready to adhere to the card, I used foam adhesive. That popped them off the card, giving even more dimension. I also realized that when I stitch on a small shape like this, they will stick to my base layer better with the foam tape. When I use a tape runner, they look a little lumpy - not the texture I was looking for.
A lot of heart (get it?) went into this card, and I was thrilled with the finished product.
