Together is the Best Place To Be

It is not often that my mom and I go out and do something just the two of us. She helps so much with Caleb’s care that one of us is almost always with him, so when we get the chance to do something together, we take it. To remember our "girls only" outing, I decided to take a selfie when we went to see the movie Little Women together on Dec. 31, 2019. We definitely agreed that this was a chick flick and are very glad that Papa was willing to let the guys hang with him instead of us dragging them along. Little did we know that would be the last movie in a theater we would see for almost two years!

I'm blessed to be able to call my mom one of my best friends! And quite frankly, I do not know how I would have made it through the hard times in my life without her by my side. We thoroughly enjoy spending time together, and I wanted a layout to show this.

Scrapbooking Tips

I used to avoid doing a layout if I only had one photo of an event, but while sorting my pictures I realized I had so many "single" photos that deserved the love and attention that a layout could give it, and this was just one of those instances. Instead of sitting forgotten in the cloud, I’m so glad I printed it and scrapbooked it.

I mostly used a simple stories 6x6 paper pad for this layout and all my embellishments and title were fussy cut from scraps.

I used a 6x6" sheet of paper that looked like embroidered hearts for the large photos mat. To accent the photo mat and title I used hearts. I fussy cut these hearts from scraps of the coordinating 12x12 sheet of paper and journaling cards that went with this collection. I used three different sized hearts and adhered some with foam adhesive to add visual interest and create dimension in the cluster.

I loved the sentiments that were on the 3x4" journaling card that came with the collection. The card that read "Together is the Best Place to Be" caught my eye and it was perfect for what I was creating, but I couldn’t use the card as a whole without throwing the 4x4" photo out of proportion. So, to solve this problem I carefully trimmed each line of text and cut around the colored rectangles. I adhered it to the bottom right corner of the larger mat with adhesive foam along with the hearts.

Finally, my last tip is even though the banner strips look like they are approximately 10 inches, they are from the same 6x6” paper pad! The banners are actually two pieces. I learned this trick from Allison Davis. She cuts her banner strips and then covers them with a larger piece of paper or a photo. I find that I can use up a lot of scraps and still have a great layout when I use this trick.
