The Amish Farm

In July of 2021, we finally ventured out of NY to Lancaster, PA. After a year of staying close to home due to the pandemic, it was great to FINALLY be able to do some traveling - even if it was only one state away. We actually went to Lancaster to see the Queen Esther show at Sight & Sound Theater. But before seeing the show, we did a little exploring. We ended up here at The Amish Farm, which was not a truly authentic farm, seeing as it shared a parking lot with Target, but we still saw some interesting exhibits and learned some things about the Amish way of life.

I had multiple layouts of photos from this adventure, but this was the first layout in the album - kind of like a highlight reel. I have pictures of the kids by the entrance, near a model buggy, in a covered bridge, and eating authentic Amish whoopie pies. I picked the best photos with the nicest smiles for this layout.

We made some fun memories and I love being able to record them!

Scrapbooking Tips:

I have found that the longer I scrapbook, I find inspiration in more and unique places. It can be a photo that will inspire a layout, or a piece of pattern paper. Those are the obvious sources of inspiration. But I have also been inspired by songs, fabric, a beautiful sunset, poems, quotes, and even my mood will influence color and design choices.

One of my favorite sights in Lancaster is seeing all the Amish quilts on display and for sale. They are truly works of art and they inspire some color combinations for scrapbooking, and even some design options. I knew I wanted to create some type of quilt background for these pictures. When I saw an Allison Davis sketch with this triangular, patch-work background with stitching I immediately thought, "Quilt!"

I had purchased Simple Stories' Homegrown collection specifically to scrapbook these photos. This collection had a farm theme, and I knew the pattern paper would work with my quilt vision for these pages.

The farm theme stickers were adorable! I was able to create this scene by layering the barn stickers with the chicken, rooster and little chick stickers. One of the pluses of using strips to journal instead of a block is that you can either fit your journaling into a designated space or fill a space depending on what you need.

The phrase stickers included in this collection were perfect for these pictures! Under the flower sticker I slipped in the phrase "Love my Herd." Over the focal point photo, I included the phrase sticker, "Welcome to the Farm."

Instead of a title, I let my photo do the talking. I like to take pictures of the kids by the entrance of places and signs just for this purpose! Instead of using letter stickers to spell out "The Amish Farm and House" it says it right in the picture.
