I love creating summer layouts - but it's hard to always come up with new and unique ways to create pool layouts. I take so many pool photos, in all honesty, they all start looking the same after a while. Don't get me wrong - I love the smiles and splashes. We spend so much time in our pool during the hot weather and I've often said that putting in a swimming pool was the best money we've ever spent. It was a huge investment, but swimming is one of the only sports everyone in our family can do. Caleb feels free in the water!
I had these photos of Zach leftover from a layout I had done of the boys in the pool, and as hard as I tried, I couldn't fit them in. Most of the time, if I can't fit photos on a layout I will either toss them or if they are really good, I will file them away to use on a collage layout of a particular child. But for some reason, I just couldn't part with these photos of Zach. I think it was the combination of the slicked back hair, goggles and mischievous smile! So, the only thing to do was create a layout with just these photos.
Scrapbooking Tips:
I was able to create this layout using scraps of a 6x6" paper pad! I had squares and strips left over from a previous layout, and I cut them down to 1x1". I followed a sketch for the placement and stitching.
I created a title with my Silhouette. There was nothing fancy to it - I searched "SWIM" in the design studio app and picked this phrase. It even came with the two fish I die cut!
My favorite element of this layout, other than Zach's smiles, is the "bubbles" coming from the fish. I used differing sizes of glitter epoxy dots from Doodlebug Designs and placed them as if they were coming out of the fish's mouth.
Enamel dots are one of my favorite embellishments and I keep them well stocked in various colors. They come in a variety of colors, sizes, glossy, matte, glitter and they are so versatile. You can use them for so many creative designs!
When I find a design I like, I have no problem with using it again. I had used this design once before for a couple of selfies I took of Zach and me in 2015. My only "rule" for "scraplifting" myself is the copied layout(s) should not be in the same album. I copied the Swim Like a Fish layout from the layout below:
The major differences are the size of the photos and their placement. In the pool layout I used two 4x6" photos, which I kept straight and lined up. For the Zach & Mommy layout I used two 2x3" photos that I matted, overlapped and tilted to help fill up the space.
The square background and stitching are the same - and the fact I used paper scraps from a 6x6" paper pad for the entire layout!
Don't be afraid to "scraplift" yourself! I find it is a huge time saver for me. I don't have to take time out to play with the design, and I also find it helps me be more creative.
