Spring is in the Air

Living in Upstate NY, you get used to cold winters. But that doesn't mean on the very first possible day where there is even just a hint of Spring in the air, you throw open the windows and head out of the house to enjoy the sunshine and milder temperatures. This photo was taken in early March of 2021. The boys were home on a virtual school day and it was just the three of us. As soon as their work was finished, I told them we were going for a walk. It was still a little chilly, but I didn't care. The sun felt warm on our faces and there was the smell of spring in the air - that earthy, muddy smell. It was wonderful.

I had such a good time enjoying the sunshine and conversation with the boys, I stopped them to take this selfie. This was a moment I never want to forget.

Scrapbooking Tips:

I tried a new technique for the very first time on this layout. I had put so much work into creating and stitching on the background, die cutting the flowers, leaves and title, and I was disappointed with the finished layout. It wasn't living up to what I had envisioned, and I was disappointed. So, figuring I had nothing to lose, I grabbed my white pen and started doodling on my title! Here are the before and after pictures:

Using lines and dots, I tried to define the edges of the titles, and LOVED the results. It added just enough to help the title stand out a little better. I will definitely do this again.

Another element I want to point out is the "i" in spring is dotted with a flower. I would love to say that I was inspired to do this to match the background and flower clusters I had on the page . . . but no, that is not the reason. I die cut the title on my Silhouette (which I have a love/hate relationship with because I'm not super tech-savvy). When I pulled it off the cutting mat, I somehow lost the dot to my "i". I could not find it anywhere - even in my scraps. So rather than cut another one, I used one of the extra flowers I had on my desk. Problem solved.
