Snow Much Fun

These photos bring back precious memories of a special day. We had gone to Dave’s grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving. Grandma Lanphear lives in the Adirondacks in Northern NY and our boys were thrilled to see snow on Thanksgiving! We had gone up a couple days early and so had my sister-in-law and her family. We took the kids outside to go sledding and made some wonderful memories. I took enough photos to fill multiple layouts but this one is a favorite!

Scrapbooking Tips:

One of my absolute go-to techniques for getting a lot of photos on a layout is to create a block of photos. My main goal in scrapbooking is to preserve memories, so I do not mind have multiple pictures on one layout. I know that lots of photos means I need to simplify to my embellishments. However, simplifying does not mean I have to sacrifice any creativity – many times it means just the opposite!

Another favorite go-to technique for creating embellishments is fussy cutting. Fussy cutting is where you carefully cut around a design or pattern and use your cutouts to embellish your layouts. Here I used a winter paper collection from Echo Park.

To create a separate space for my design, I laid a striped strip across the photos. I then fussy cut out snowflakes from a piece a pattern paper and adhered those down on the white space above my photos. I made sure to vary the size and color of the snowflakes, so I didn’t have similar colors side-by-side. I die cut a red circle and stitched it on the page and used that space to ground my title. I chose a red circle for my title to compliment the red snowflakes.

To mimic the look of an actual snowfall, and create a sense of movement, I randomly placed my carefully cut flakes in the white space, and even tucked a few below the photos. I let some hang over the top and edges of the layout, and then trimmed off the excess. To keep your eye going across the page, I even place a snowflake over the seam of the two pages. All of these techniques will create movement in your layout – and movement matched the theme of the kids sliding down the hill!
