Simply Sweet

Writer: Amy Cunniff-BleauAmy Cunniff-Bleau

I LOVE making summer strawberry layouts! I love the whole summer experience of taking the photos, watching Azzy enjoy a sun-ripened strawberry right off of the vine and seeing the juices trickle down her chin. Nothing tastes like summer more than anything you just picked!

I vividly remember this night. Alyssia grabbed Azzy and said they were going strawberry picking like country girls. She and a newly walking Azzy made their way outside to Jim's garden. It was adorable watching Azzy bend down to get her own berries and pop the whole thing - sometimes with the stem - into her mouth before Alyssia could stop her. At one point, Alyssia (also known as Aunt Sissy) made Azzy open her mouth to show it was empty before Aunt Sissy gave her another berry.

Alexis and I watched from the sidelines enjoying the sweet interactions between Azzy and her much loved Aunt Sissy while we enjoyed the beautiful summer night. Without a doubt this will go down as one of my favorite summer memories.

Scrapbooking Tips

With this layout, the combination of multiple photos and little details steal the show! What I also love about this layout is the adorable photos paired with a perfect paper collection, Echo Park's Little Ladybug.

Lately I find myself gravitating towards using 3x4 and 4x3 inch photos in my scrapbooking. I purchased a sketch bundle from Allison Davis that I absolutely love turning to for inspiration. Because I take so many photos, I really like using the smaller size so I can fit more on a layout, and these sketches seem to appeal to my scrapbooking style making them my go-to starting point. I stayed very close to one of the sketches in this bundle and couldn't be happier with the finished product.

Some of the attention to detail I included were two types of stitching. I used both a backstitch and counted cross stitch. I thought the addition of the cross stitches gave it more of a country feel.

I also created embellishment clusters by using a combination of stickers and fussy cut flowers and strawberries. The pattern papers in this collection gave me a ton of options to choose from given all the prints they included.

I used this perfect strawberry pattern paper on the right side of my layout. Because it is a busy pattern, I used a journaling block instead of paper strips. I die cut my title, but instead of using the black paper to dot my "i", I chose a tiny strawberry sticker in an attempt to draw more attention to the title. In person, I feel the title stands out better, but it was still a challenge to keep it from getting swallowed by those cute strawberries!

Overall, I am super happy with how this layout turned out. I love how I was able to capture a fun memory and look forward to showing Azzy and reliving the moment with her and Alyssia when she is older. It's just one of the many reasons I scrapbook.
