Scout & Dakota at Camp

Have I mentioned my family had two furry members? Scout and Dakota are Siberian Huskies who bring a lot of joy into our home, along with a lot of dog hair that needs to be cleaned. But on this day, they were adorable, and Jim got some great pictures of them playing in the snow. Although Jim was the driving force for adding not one but two animals to our family, I will have to say that they are loved and spoiled by most everyone - even me!

Scrapbooking Tips:

I created this layout when I was taking an Allison Davis Facebook class on using 6x6 paper pads. I used one of her amazing sketches and followed it pretty closely.

Because this layout was in Jim’s hunting album, I wanted to give it a rustic look. I opted for white background sheets to compliment the snow. I used sheets from a 6x6 paper pad as photos mats. But rather than ink the edges of them, I used white acrylic paint.

I poured out a little paint on a paper plate, and using a makeup sponge, applied it to the edges of the photos and the mats. This was only the second time I used paint on a layout, and I was pleased with the results. The only downside with using paint is that it takes a little longer to dry than the ink I typically use. I had to leave these photos and mats out to dry for 30 minutes - 1 hour and then come back to put my page together. For layouts where I want to use paint, I now plan ahead to accommodate the drying time.

An element on this layout that I absolutely love is the wooden snowflakes. They had come in a Stamps of Life card kit, and I loved them so much I had ordered extra. When I saw the pattern paper with a wood grain, I knew just what to grab in my stash.

My final touch was some hand stitching around some of the photo mats. I used white embroidery thread to go along with the snow theme.
