Same Design, Different Looks

Writer: Amy Cunniff-BleauAmy Cunniff-Bleau

One of my scrapbooking “philosophies” is why reinvent the wheel? If I find a sketch or design I like I use it multiple times. While I have no problem recycling a design, I challenge myself not to use it on layouts that will be in the same album.

My starting point for both of the layouts seen here was a Scrapbook Generation sketch. The first time I used this sketch was when I made a layout of Zach going down the bouncy house slide at Camp of the Woods. Using slanted photos are a great way to convey motion in your designs, which was a perfect fit for photos of Zach gleefully going down slide. For the embellishments, I kept it simple and used stars.

Another layout I created using this design is of Jim’s golfing. I switched out the stars for golf balls and did not use the strips. Again, the reason I chose this design was it reminded me of the movement of a golf swing. I don't typically like creating on an angle, but for these photos it really worked!

Don’t be afraid to copy yourself! You’ll save a lot of time, and it can stretch your creativity and challenge you to see how many ways you can reuse a design.
