Okay, are you ready for the most creative paper pieced embellishments I have ever come up with? Here is my disclaimer - this was a time consuming labor or love but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way it looks.

Angry Birds Piñata
I know that I have mentioned my older son is a Star Wards FANATIC. This love of Star Wars began when his father let him play Angry Birds Star Wars on his phone when Caleb was four years old, and the rest is history. Caleb wanted to know why did they have a bad guy in a black mask? What is a light saber? What is the force? He became totally fascinated with the franchise, even though he did not see the actual movies until he was eight.
Caleb was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy when he was two years old and began multiple therapies, and we were blessed to have some amazing therapists in our home working with him, and they became like family! For occupational therapy, his OT had him make an piñata and he wanted to do Red Skywalker from Angry Birds Star Wars.

Here are the pictures of the day he got to crack it open and I wanted to make the layout special because he worked very hard on that project. However, I could not find one Angry Birds Star Wars embellishment. So, I found some free coloring sheets and made my own. I cut apart a coloring sheet and used it to trace the various parts on scraps of cardstock. I then glued the pieces together and outlined them with a black Sharpie marker for definition.

I popped up the eyes and beaks with foam tape to add dimension and I used enamel dots for the pupils of the eyes. To make them stand out even further, I adhered the whole bird with foam adhesive, and I tucked the end of my journaling strips under Red Skywalker.

Step-by-Step Instructions for making an embellishment from a coloring sheet:

Cut out an image from the rest of the coloring sheet and trace the entire image onto cardstock. This is your base.

Carefully cut apart your image, using the black lines as your guide.
Using a pencil, lightly trace each piece of the image onto colored cardstock.

After you cut out each piece, and erase any visible pencil lines, start gluing each piece to your card stock base.

Depending on your design you may want to use adhesive foam or pop dots to add dimension to certain aspects of your embellishment.

This technique, although time consuming, is an awesome option for when you need an unique embellishment you just can't buy.
