Mommy's Valentines

Valentine's Day 2009 fell in the middle of an extremely stressful time in life. Caleb had just turned two and Zach was only six months old. We were waiting on test results to see if Caleb had SMA, and Zach was the busiest baby - always wanting to be held, entertained or moving. There was no downtime until they fell asleep - at least they were both awesome sleepers! I do not know what I would have done if they weren't.

But as my mother always said of this time period, "The days are long, but the years are short." As I write this, they are thirteen and fifteen. I have more free time, and they don't always want their mom hanging around. They call me "Mom" and I no longer hear little voices calling for "Mommy". But no matter how old they are, or where they go in life, they will always be my valentines.

Scrapbooking Tips:

I sometimes cringe when I look at my old layouts. This was before I discovered sketches and had Allison Davis to look to for inspiration. But I think this layout has stood the test of time in the fact it is pretty simple. I created an oversized matt for my photos and added a simple ribbon with a knot. I used a craft punch to create red photo corners, but if I was doing this layout now, I would probably make them white. Some punched white hearts and a title created with Thickers completed the layout.

However, I want to show you a before and after of this layout. The top picture is actually the after photo. This is what it looked like before:

It's a very subtle difference - can you spot it?

I added a red border! I carefully trimmed down the black cardstock so when I centered it on a 12x12 piece of red cardstock there would be a 1/4" border. I think it adds just a little more visual interest to this simple layout. This technique is quick and easy, and it uses up my stash of cardstock. I definitely can see myself adding more borders in the future.
