Love This

Some memories are so precious that even a scrapbook layout can't do them justice. That was the case for this layout. My mom was going to drive her parents to Lancaster, PA so my grandfather could visit his brother. When I heard this, I asked my mom if the boys and I could tag along. It had been almost two years since Dave had died, and it was hard to travel with both boys as a single mom, and there was a reason I wanted to take them to Lancaster. . .

In 2001, Dave and I had traveled there specifically to see the Noah show at Sight & Sound Theater, and we loved it! Sight & Sound Theater brings the Bible to life on stage with their depictions of favorite Bible stories like Noah, Moses, Joseph and Esther. We often talked about bringing our kids here one day because it was such an amazing show. I had the chance to follow through on one our dreams. It was bittersweet to be going without him, but I knew I had to do it.

So not only did the boys and I go to see Moses, but my parents and grandparents were there as well. That was incredibly special, and it helped to take the sting out of being there without Dave. I honestly can say that I don't remember much of the show because I was so busy watching the boys take in everything. I am so glad that they found the experience as magical as I had! It was amazing seeing the burning bush on stage and the red sea parting. The boys were "oohing" and "aahing" the entire show. All around it was a fantastic night - and we couldn't leave the theater without stopping at the gift shop for Moses staffs and a replica of the lobby's statute. My parents and grandparents enjoyed watching the boys as much as I did, and all around it was so much fun!

Scrapbooking Tips

As awesome as this night was, my pictures were horrendous. I hadn't brought my bulky Cannon camera and was relying on my iPhone camera. The lighting was not great, and most of my pictures came out dark or with yellow hues. Shortly after this I bought a new phone but researched which one had the best camera. But in the meantime, I had less than lackluster photos of a very special memory. How does a scrapbooker deal with this dilemma? My solution is to go all out on the layout!

To go all out on a layout, I pick my favorite papers and add extra (time-consuming) touches. In this particular case I reached for my Coco Vanilla papers. I don't typically work with feminine looking papers, and to me Coco Vanilla paper collections have the most amazing paper and embellishments with soft, feminine touches in muted pastels. They are absolutely GORGEOUS! I love it when I can use them to create stunning layouts.

Another thing I did was die cut hearts using my absolute favorite dotted heart dies from The Stamps of Life. After adhering them to my layout, I poked holes in each dot so I could stitch a border on them. It took a couple hours, but the finished result was so worth the investment!

For my title, I used one of the foam phrase stickers that came in this collection. I added some phrase strips and puffy heart stickers as my finishing touches. I love the finished layout - even with my dark and grainy photos. But more importantly, I captured the memory so we will never forget that trip to Sight & Sound.
