Leonard the Snowman

This photo is one of my favorite winter photos – and I did not even take it. It was one of the first snow days of the year and my mom helped the boys build this snowman. With Caleb’s wheelchair, he doesn’t always get to play in the snow because the electronics in his chair should not get wet. This was the perfect snowfall because there was enough snow to build a snowman, but it was not deep enough to touch the bottom of the chair.

Zach used whatever he could find to accessorize their creation and he used a ridiculously long snake scarf, a hunter’s fluorescent orange hat, and two plastic ninja swords for the arms. He found a traditional carrot for the nose, but the eyes and buttons may have been Oreo cookies. But the best part was the fact that they insisted they name the snowman Leonard!

These are some of the precious memories I would never have remembered if I hadn’t scrapbooked this photo. I love the makeshift snowman, the proud smiles, and the creativity they showed. This photo deserved its own layout.

Scrapbooking Tips:

Double Matted Photo: I used a double mat for this photo. I was following a sketch from Allison Davis of Scrapbook Generation, and the larger red mat seemed to overwhelm my photo, so I created a 6 ¼” by 4 ¼” white mat to layer between the photo and larger red mat.

Color Combination: All the pattern paper in this layout is from a 6x6 paper pad. I had a winter themed collection from Miss Kate Cuttables and I loved the color combination of aqua, gold and red. I was able to use some gold snowflake stickers I had in my stash and then used my Silhouette to cut snowflakes out of light aqua. However, the cardstock snowflakes seemed flat and dull compared to the gold snowflakes, so I added some rhinestone bling to my snowflake centers and Nuvo drops to the ends to create some sparkle.

Supplies Used:

White Cardstock: Bazzill cardstock

Red & Aqua Cardstock: The Stamps of Life

Pattern Paper: Miss Kate Cuttables

Title Alphabet: American Crafts Thickers

Gold Snowflakes: Recollections

Miscellaneous: DMC embroidery floss and Nuvo Drops
