Green Eggs & Ham

I always loved to read and wanted my kids to be readers. For Caleb's first birthday my grandmother asked me what she should get Caleb and I asked for Dr. Seuss books. I loved reading them to both boys, and their favorites were The Foot Book and Green Eggs and Ham. March 2 was Dr. Seuss' birthday and recently it has become National Read Across America Day. When Caleb was five, he and I threw a Dr. Seuss birthday party and invited his Cunniff cousins.

The week before March 2, Caleb and I read multiple Dr. Seuss books, and a biography of Dr. Seuss. Then Caleb helped me make white and red cupcakes. On party day, Mommy made green eggs and ham and all the kids ate that and other goodies while we read the book. We had so much fun despite a couple of meltdowns. I made this layout to remember that day.

Scrapbooking Tips:

While shopping at a Creative Keepsakes Convention, I found these adorable Dr. Seuss embellishments. Right away I envisioned using them on this layout. I even used a sketch that had open space where I could give these die cuts a prominent place. I love how it reinforced my theme and gave my less than perfect pictures an awesome look.

I love die cut embellishments like this! However, if you are not cutting them out yourself, they can get pricey. When I am going to a scrapbooking event like a crop or convention, I'll make a list of layouts I would like to make but I don't have the "perfect" supplies to match my vision. As I am shopping, I refer to my list to see if anything catches my eye. Many times, seeing the right sticker, embellishment or pattern paper will spark some creativity and make me excited to create! Obviously, I don't do this for every layout, but some photos are special enough that I would hold out on making them until I had time to shop and look for the perfect embellishment.
