Autumn is my favorite season. There is something about the crisp feel of the air, the glorious colors of the leaves and the smell of apple crisp that makes me happy. I also feel that fall is the glorious gateway to the holiday season. I think of fall, and I smile - and so does Jim. So, when it came time to pick a wedding date, we chose October.
When Jim and I were planning our wedding, we found the Lodge at Echo Lake in Warrensburg, NY - right in the Adirondack mountains and booked October 14th. We chose to have the majority of our photos done before the wedding seeing as we both wanted tons of pictures. What made it even more special is that one of my former students was our wedding photographer!
We had a beautiful day to get married, and we had a beautiful wedding. Jim and I had both been through hard, painful years on our journey to each other. Jim and I both admit we had pictured a forever with our former spouses, but God had other plans for us. We also knew that blending a family would not be easy - but we trusted in God's grace and that we could do it with His help.
Our journey as husband and wife began seven years ago, and we're living a "happily ever after." Has it been easy blending our families? No, but I can honestly say we all love each other, and it has been worth the struggles! Have we faced some obstacles? Absolutely! Some of the challenges we've been through have shaken us and sent us to our knees in prayer. Have we made sweet memories? Yes . . . and we still have forever to make them.
Scrapbooking Tips
Our photos were beautiful! I'll be honest though - we just celebrated our seventh anniversary and I still have not even started our wedding album. I'm holding out for the perfect fall paper collection that will have the vibrant colors I'm picturing when I imagine the layouts I want to create. However, I have done a couple layouts here and there when inspiration strikes.
I made this layout using three sheets of 6x6 inch paper. I was inspired when I saw the sheet of paper that had the beautiful fall floral wreath. I carefully poked a hole in the center of the paper and then fussy cut the inside of the wreath as a frame for my photo. I then adhered it to the top of my photo.
I distressed the edges of the papers with my fingernail to give some texture to the layout. It also created extra definition where the paper hits the brown base page.
You can see in this photo that the title has some dimension - and I made it myself rather than buy a title sticker. I found a beautiful cursive font and used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the word Forever. Here's where the magic happens though . . .
I cut it out three times. Then I carefully glued each word one on top of the other to give it some thickness. By doing this it helps lift it off the page and you get the look of a sticker. I also used up a scrap sheet of paper in the process!
By using this method, I can create any title I want, any size I want - and I use up scraps. This is quickly becoming a go-to technique for me!
