Egg Hunt - Part 2

This layout shows fun memories of an Easter egg hunt at Grammy and Grampy’s house. Aunt Lynn, Aunt Christine and Aunt Sarah all filled Easter eggs and hid them in the backyard. All the cousins came with baskets in hand, eager to scour the backyard looking for candy filled eggs. Of course, this was the perfect time to take a group photo of all the Cunniff cousins. Scrapbooking Tips: Because this was a somewhat annual tradition for the years when the kids were little, it was hard to make my scrapbook layouts look different every Easter. That’s when using sketches saves me so much time and frustration! I can look at past layouts, and then look for a sketch that has a totally different design. I was able to incorporate 12 photos on this layout thanks to using a Scrapbook Generation sketch. The photos are a combination of 3 x 4", 6 x 4", and 2 x 2". Following my sketch I made the small 2 x 2" photos accent photos. When doing a layout like this I try to make sure I have incorporated photos of each kid and it’s so hard because sometimes it’s just not easy to get a good picture of every niece or nephew! As they run, I try to snap as many good photos as I can, but sometimes I miss someone. This year in particular, I was able to get JJ from the back and I did not get any good individual pictures of my nephew Jude, but I love the group shot we were able to take of all the cousins, including one month old Reagan and 10 month old Eden!

I also completed this layout using only at 6 x 6" paper pad from The Stamps of Life, along with letter stickers. I created the look of 10" banners by creating 1x6" inch banners and then cutting them in half. I then simply adhered one half above my row of photos and another below. This gives the illusion that the paper runs completely behind the picture. I learned this technique from Allison Davis, and I cannot tell you how many times I’ve used this technique. It’s a great way to conserve your favorite sheets of paper or use up scraps of paper that otherwise might’ve been tossed in the trash.

The Easter egg clusters you see throughout the layout are actually cut from a piece of the pattern paper in the 6 x 6" paper pad that I was using. I love that I was able to cut the different sizes down and be able to mix and match the colors I wanted to complement my photos in the layout.

BEFORE

For this layout I’ve included a before and after picture because I want to illustrate something I went back and changed. This layout was published in the Spring 2022 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. As thrilled as I was to see my layout in print, I was disappointed with how much my title blended into the background.

AFTER

I decided to take pink stickers of the same font and I laid them on top of the white stickers. I offset them just a little bit so the white sticker acted as a shadow to the pink sticker. You can see from the before and after photos that that really helps the sticker stand out more from the paper.

I am not opposed to taking layouts I’ve previously done and fix them if I see something that jumps out at me as I flip back through old albums. I scrapbook primarily for me and my family, so I want to enjoy the layouts and look at them, and who cares if they sit in the albums for years before I decide I want to tweak it a little bit more? What’s important to me is that the memories are captured and I know that I did my creative best to showcase them.
