Dog Days

I cannot showcase layouts of my family without including scrapbooking pages featuring the furry members! When Jim and the girls came into our lives, they brought with them a love for Siberian Huskies. They had their beloved dog Yukon who lived with the girls. He was old and well loved, and shortly after Jim and I got married, Yukon passed away.

It was especially hard on Alexis who dearly loved Yukon. I found these photos of her and buddy and created this layout. I love these photos because you can clearly see how Alexis felt about her long-time companion. This dog certainly left his paw prints on her heart when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Scrapbooking Tips:

This layout came together quickly. All of my elements came from Puppy Love collection from Doodlebug Designs. I love the bright colors and all the cute canine quotes. I cut these strips out of their border pattern paper and adhered them above and below my pictures - you can't get much faster than that. The page title was even a premade die cut I simply adhered with foam tape. I was even able to quickly create the heart border in record time. Altogether, this layout took less than 30 minutes to put together.

I thought the perfect embellishment for these photos were hearts. I die cut circles (out of my paper scraps) using my favorite dotted dies and inked the edges with brown ink. I adhered them to the page and then added the heart stickers on top. I would not consider myself a perfectionist, but I do have my OCD moments, and are usually related to scrapbooking. I didn't want the same colors next to each other if I could help it. To make this visually pleasing, I laid down the circles then accented them with the heart, alternating my colors.

Another thing I did was to let my circles hang off the edge of the page. I carefully trimmed off any excess paper. I like doing this because it creates a sense of motion on the page.

This layout is so versatile. You can switch out the dog themed papers for anything else - wedding, baby, seasons, etc. It can even be stretched across two pages. I plan to use this design repeatedly.
