Did Someone Say Cake? Birthday Layout

Today Caleb is 15 years old! Where did the time go? It seems like I blinked and he grew up. While he has grown and changed over the years, some things have stayed the same - he is still incredibly brave and strong, he likes school and loves to read, and his love of Stars Wars still is going strong!

In honor of Caleb, I decided to share a layout I did of his 9th birthday. I always take way too many pictures at the kids' birthday parties, and in all honesty, many of them never make it into the album because the quality isn't great, the birthday boy/girl isn't looking at the camera, or it is the same pose but different present. Even though I try to be selective, I typically have 1-3 layouts for any given birthday party. This birthday layout focuses on the awesome Star Wars birthday cake Aunt Sarah made

Caleb.

Scrapbooking Tips:

Stitching

I used an Allison Davis sketch to create this layout. I really loved the look for the hexagons and fell in love with the background she created out of these shapes. I followed the sketch exactly and loved adding stitching to some of the shapes and even created some of the hexagons with just stitching.

I used a die from The Stamps of Life to cut out all my hexagons. I traced a few hexagons directly on the page. I then punched holes and stitched the shape onto the cardstock. One thing I struggle with is to create straight lines when I do not have a template to poke my stitching holes. So don't look too closely at the stitching on this layout!

Creative Titles

I used a paper collection from Bella Blvd. and purchased the matching ephemera pack which included the phrase, "Did Some Say Cake?" I thought that would be a perfect page title.

I thought of spelling out my title with letter stickers, but it would have taken up too much of the page and given how busy the background was (and how much work it took!) I did not necessarily want to cover it up with stickers. The simplicity of the phrase strip worked well with the overall feel of the layout.

Visual Triangles

This layout is a great example of creating visual triangles to move your eye around the page. Here I show how I created a visual triangle using enamel heart stickers around the title.

Supplies used:

Navy Cardstock: Bazzill

Pattern Paper and Title Strip: Bella Blvd.

Embroidery Floss: Hobby Lobby

Enamel Heart Stickers: Doodlebug Designs
