Although I try to focus on my blessings when I scrapbook, it is impossible to record 2020 and not have the COVID pandemic end up in your layouts. Every area of life was affected, especially where all of Caleb's medical appointments and procedures were concerned.
As if Caleb didn't have enough grief and aggravation with having SMA, he needed some minor, non-SMA related surgery done which had been scheduled for June 1, 2020, before the world shut down. Thankfully, Albany Med was still willing to do the surgery, but Caleb needed to have a negative COVID test before he could go under general anesthesia. This was the first of his many COVID tests. Like so many others, we drove through the testing sight and waited our turn to have Caleb's nose swabbed. He actually had a ranking system for which medical facility did the best test!
I'm so thankful Caleb has such a laid-back personality that he can just go with the flow! That certainly has made my life as his mother easier. It's hard enough to watch him have to go through everything he does, but he somehow manages to do it with an amazing attitude and a smile on his face - and that is a blessing!
Scrapbooking Tips:
I had a lot of fun putting together this layout. There are now entire paper lines and embellishments and cut files related to COVID. I had an Allison Davis sketch and was trying to think of how to personalize it. She had circles with stars, and when I was flipping through my photos, and I saw these, I thought of creating these COVID embellishments.
To create these embellishments, I cut circles out of white cardstock using my dotted dies from The Stamps of Life. Then, using my Silhouette die cutting machine, I cut my COVID germs out of coordinating cardstock, adhering them in the center of the white circle with foam adhesive to lift them off the page. I poked holes through the dots and stitched around the border of the circle.
Instead of white cardstock, I used a piece of pattern paper from Photo Play's Living the Quarantined Life collection for my base. Interestingly, I LOVED working with the grid, it made lining up the elements on my page so quick and easy. I'll have to remember that for future layouts!
