Catch Me If You Can

Last March, Alyssia participated in her school play Catch Me If You Can. Alyssia had a solo and did a fabulous job and the cast as whole was amazing! I was so impressed with the choreography and multiple costume changes as well. I probably took a couple hundred pictures of Alyssia performing!

I have so many photos that I still want to scrapbook from this play, but for Alyssia’s graduation party I was scrapbooking as much of her senior year as I possibly could so we could put the album out for guests to look at. I think scrapbooking is one of my love languages, and it was so easy to create beautiful layouts, because not only is Alyssia super photogenic, but she’s also willing to pose for photos, which means I have so many options when it comes to putting together layouts starring her. Its a scrapbooker’s dream!

I also have to note, that Alyssia, of all our kids, is the only one who has asked me what happens to the scrapbooks when I die. I can’t tell you had good that made me feel knowing that she cared. My answer was that all of them could take the layouts they wanted and toss the rest. I’ve told the kids that the layouts are my love letters to them, look and read them because they might have hidden messages.

Scrapbooking Tips

Because I was in a time crunch and mass-producing layouts, I tried to be selective of what photos I scrapbooked. I printed all the photos I wanted to use in various sizes, but knew that I could only get one layout done before her party, so I chose to make one that would showcase the most photos.

I flipped through my sketches to find some inspiration that would include multiple 4x3 photos, but nothing fit the “feel” and theme I was looking for. I decided to go quick and simple and place the photos in a grid. A grid design always works!

However, with a grid design, I wanted to break up the solid photo block, so I trimmed three photos down to 3 3/4 x 2 3/4. Next, I matted them with 4x3 photo mat. This also added additional color to tie into the arrows surrounding the photo grid.

Because our family loves going to plays, I try to pull inspiration from the posters and promo material from the Broadway play bills. This is where I turn to Google for inspiration. I look at different images and pull colors, fonts and design ideas from what I find.

The Catch Me If You Can playbill had multiple colors and arrows with a 60’s feel. So to decorate the edges of my grid I used arrows in colors that came from the dresses the girls wore in the opening number of this production. To create my arrows in the right size and pointing in the right direction, I cut them using my Silhouette Cameo.

I have some close ups and candid shots of Alyssia I still have to scrapbook, but I saved the paper and the cut files I created so the layouts will have a consistent feel when they go side by side in the album.

Overall, I’m pleased with the layout. Once I settled on my design it came together in about 10-15 minutes, but I don’t feel I sacrificed any creativity.
