These photos were taken at the Butterfly Garden at the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. If you ever get the change to go to this amazing museum, I highly recommend it. Our family has made numerous trips over the years, especially when we have stayed in town because Caleb has had appointments or treatments at Strong Memorial Hospital. The boys loved to go here and loved introducing Alyssia to it. It is simply amazing.
At one end of the museum there is a Butterfly Garden. I’ve only gotten the boys to want to go twice, once on our first trip, and on this trip with Alyssia. It was dumb luck that I got some of the shots of the butterflies I did, and almost immediately began designing the scrapbook layout. (Funny how my mind works!)
Scrapbooking Tips
Because the kids were only in a few of the pictures, I picked a Simple Stories paper collection that was more grown up looking. I also thought the blues, greens and yellows would complement the butterflies in my photos. I used a 6x6 paper pad and an Allison Davis sketch to figure out my photo arrangement and placement.
The element I love the most though is my cut title and butterfly embellishments. I used scraps of my The Stamps of Life cardstock and cut out my title in a whimsical font. I cut three butterflies and arranged them in a visual triangle to draw the readers eyes around the layout.
Overall, this layout has a much more elegant look than what I typically do. I try very hard to match the tone of the layout with the tone of the pictures.
