This layout was a lot of fun to put together because I challenged myself. I had just finished the layout "You are Out of this World," so my desk was cluttered with this orange and navy-blue paper along with these photos from the space exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science. So, in the words of one of my favorite TV personalities, Tim Gunn, I decided to "make it work." I was pleased with the finished product and pleasantly surprised to learn that when I limited my supplies, my creativity grew exponentially. Less really is more! (Although you'd never know that if you looked at my scrapbooking room.)
Scrapbooking Tips:
I cut strips from the white splattered navy-blue pattern paper to frame my photos, which I thought was perfect for an outer space themed design. I was using a sketch as a starting point, and it showed striped paper. I used the plaid paper you see here because it was on the back side of the orange pattern paper. I thought it really brightened up the darker colors and the bonus was it even coordinated with the shirt Zach was wearing.
I spread my title over both pages of the layout. Thats why you see a larger gap between the "of" and "Science." It might look out of proportion, but when the pages go into page protecters then placed in an album it is spaced pretty evenly. I started the word "Science" very close to the left margin of the page for that reason.
In the wide border below the photos, I adhered approximately two-inch white stars. I cut them using my Dotted Star Dies from The Stamps of Life. I have no problem with overlapping my embellishments over photos. I think it helps create a sense of motion. But even after adding the larger stars, it looked like the layout still needed a little shine, so I added dimensional star stickers from Jolee's Boutique.
Although I had enough pictures to create a second layout of this exhibit, I opted to limit myself to the seven photos I could fit on these two pages. I still have enough photos for probably 6-7 more pages from this museum trip because there were so many interesting things to see and do. I know I'm addicted to scrapbooking, but I had to draw a line somewhere . . . . I still have Quincy Market and aquarium pictures to do from this trip. :)
