In my last post I talked about the handicap adventures we take as a family, and the zoo has definitely been one of our favorite places to explore. Caleb has many doctor appointments and treatments in Rochester, NY, which is 3 hours away. Sometimes we try to schedule these visits on back to back days or as close as possible and then spend the night. We turn as many of these trips into adventures as we possibly can.
When we have to spend a couple days, we have explored the area around Rochester. We have made many trips to Strong Museum of Play, the Rochester Science Museum and the Seneca Falls Zoo. Even though we have visited these attractions more than once over the years, we always find or learn something new. I honestly enjoy these trips as much as the kids do.
Scrapbooking Tips
Using the same papers and stickers as I did with my other zoo layouts, I created this layout to coordinate and compliment the others in my album. I used a sketch from Allison Davis that incorporated punched hexagons. This is a great technique, because I was able to use a 6x6 paper pad. Even for the striped strips bordering my 6x4" photos was created using 6x6 papers. I just laid the photos over the seam.
I followed my inspiration sketch pretty closely, and it showed that in place of some of the paper hexagons, stitched hexagons. I traced a paper hexagon, and then poked holes so I could stitch the shape. This was a little time consuming because I had to get all the other hexagons laid out, so I knew for sure that I had perfect placement for my stitching. You can also see in this close up that I stitched on top of some of the paper hexagons.
One thing that I really liked about leaving a break from the pattern paper is that it gave a perfect spot to place my stickers. I actually adhered them with foam adhesive to pop them up off the page.
I love Doodlebug Design, Inc's products, but they do tend to have a more youthful feel to them. I save them for fun projects like the zoo layouts I have been showing this week. I absolutely love it when I get to play with these products!
