Clue

While Zach loved the drama club in middle school, he hesitated to join in high school, even though I knew he really wanted to. He was a freshman, and working so hard to keep his head above water academically, and he had mentioned he wanted to try out for the Clue play they would be putting on that fall. Unfortunately he did not muster up the courage to audition, but we had to go see the show - TWICE!

A friend from church played Col. Mustard and so many friends from church and school came out to support Brendan. We took lots of pictures, laughed and applauded and Zach knew he wanted to be a part of this.

This was the play that made him determined to overcome his fear and go for what he wanted. When auditions for the Spring musical, Chicago, were announced, Zach boldly attended the auditions in early December, and even convinced Caleb to try out too. This momma bear knows Zach roped Caleb in because he didn’t want to venture out alone, but I don’t care. I’m so incredibly proud he pursued his dream and this was the first step.

Scrapbooking Tips

I had so much fun creating this layout. 90% of the time I start with a sketch. I love using those as a springboard in the creative process, but when it comes to drama/theater layouts, I find it so easy to flex my creative muscles and start from scratch.

I knew I wanted to mimic the look of the program, where there were bold stripes in the Clue colors, and I wanted to incorporate the clue weapons. I tried using strips of all the colors featured on the program but it looked way too busy, so I settled on the scarlett red, mustard yellow and dark green because those colors matched my photos the best. The most daunting part of the creative process was scouring Silhouette Design Studio for images I could die cut - the hardest one to come by being the lead pipe! However, I was determined to make it work, even if I had to get a little creative by shrinking a sword to look like a knife and paper piece the pipe.

I didn’t have too many pictures, so I used the program on the right of the layout, and adhered it carefully so we could open it and read it. To keep it flat against the page, I left the dagger’s edge unglued so the paper could tuck behind the handle.

I also create a pocket out of my 6x4 photos on the far left. I adhere the bottom photo flat the page, but on the top photo I used thin doubled sided tape on only the bottom and sides. I stuck our ticket stubs from both nights of the show in the pocket.

I had so much fun creating this layout! I love how I can look back on these photos and smile because without a doubt, this experience was the turning point in Zach’s life. It sparked in him a passion that was all his own, and I couldn’t be prouder of him.
